Band Notes for 1/20/2017

1/20/2017

Band Notes for 1/20/17

Happy Friday!

It’s been a little while, but below you’ll find this week’s edition of Band Notes.

All bands

During class yesterday, I spoke with all the Skyridge bands about the recent concert and grading.  Thank you to those who were able to make it, and for those who weren’t, I totally understand!  It was messy out there and downright impossible for some folks to travel safely.

Special shout out to the families who helped transport kids to the concert.  I was very pleased with all our bands, and am looking forward to our Spring concert in a few months.

I had a chat with the administration, and we decided that the best thing to do because of the unusual circumstances is to simply remove the concert grade from Skyward, so it won’t appear as an assignment any longer.  This will happen sometime in the next few days.  Of course, it won’t affect any students’ grades negatively.  Thanks for your understanding as we try and get on our feet after the crazy weather that plagued us the past few weeks.

We have six students who were selected to play in the North County Honor Band:  Laura Burton, Cat Lind, Lucas Mansfield, Jonathan Lightfoot, Akash Prasad, and Ingrid Larsen.  They’ll be performing at Hockinson High School in the Auditorium (16819 NE 159th St., Brush Prairie, WA 98606) at 7 p.m. this Saturday, 1/21/2017.

Students who attend can earn Band Project credit by bringing me a copy of the program from the concert.  The concert is free to the public:  make sure to come and support your fellow Skyhawks by wearing your school gear!

Jazz Band
The Clark Community College Jazz Festival is next week during the school day on Thursday, January 26th.  We’re ironing out the rest of the bus details, but the Jazz Band is scheduled to perform at 9:35 a.m.  We will be back by the end of school.  If we make it into the finals, then we’ll be headed back to CCC on a bus that leaves from Skyridge, perform sometime during the 4 o’clock hour, and then parents will need to pick up students/arrange a carpool from CCC at that time.  But again, that’s all dependant upon if the band makes it to the finals or not.

That’s the long a short of it, but more details will follow early next week once we get the bus schedule set.

Closing

That’s all for now!  Enjoy your weekend (not that we really need another one!), and I’m looking forward to getting into a normal routine on Monday.

Concert information

1/10/2017

Dear parents,

You should have received an E-Mail through Skyward regarding this evening's concert.  Just in case you didn't, I've reposted my message from last night below:

Concert Infomation

When
Concert will be Tuesday, January 10th at 7:00 p.m. at the Camas High School Theatre.

When to meet
Students need to arrive at 6:30 p.m.  Please do not arrive any earlier than 6:30 p.m., as we will be setting up the theatre.

Where to meet/case storage
The 6th Grade Band will meet onstage at CHS and store their cases directly offstage.
The 7th Grade Band will meet in the Choir Room at CHS.  They will also store their cases here.
The 8th Grade Band will meet in the Band Room at CHS.  They will also store their cases here.

Instruments
Students who are using school woodwind or brass instruments will be responsible for bringing their instrument to and from CHS tomorrow.

Checking in
There will be an attendance sheet in each group’s case storage area.  In order to receive credit, students will need to check themselves off once they get there.  Remember, students are asked to stay for the entirety of the concert.

What to wear
Please check the band website’s dress code for proper attire.

Seating in the CHS Theatre
Students will have a clearly marked off section to sit in.  We ask that students sit there for the entirety of the concert.   Students are expected to be quiet, attentive audience members when they are not playing.  Concert credit will be reduced if students are being a distraction to other audience members and/or other band members.

Recording
We could use a parent to help with recording the concert.  Please let me know if you have a recording device and would be willing to record the entire concert.

Thank you again for your support of Skyridge Bands!  I’m looking forward to seeing you tonight!
