Dear Skyridge parents,
As I’m sure you already saw, the District has had to cancel all evening events for 12/15, which unfortunately includes our concert. Nobody is more disappointed than I am—the kids have worked so incredibly hard preparing a program for you, and it’s a shame that we won’t get to perform it for you before Winter Break. On the bright side, I spoke with Principal Williams, and we are going reschedule the concert upon our return from break. As soon as I can work out those details, I’ll pass those along to you. As I reflect on the last few months, I wanted to take a few moments to thank students and parents for their support and encouragement so far this year. It can be tough being the “new guy,” but Skyridge students and parents have been just incredible and very welcoming. Thank you for making me feel at home in your community! Camas is a really special place, and I’m so lucky to be a part of it. I hope to see everyone tomorrow, but if they happen to cancel school, I wish you all the best for a joyful holiday season and a happy new year! --Michael Sanchez Happy Monday!
I hope you enjoyed your unexpected 4 day weekend. As you know, we have a band concert coming up, so I wanted to give you all the pertinent information regarding Thursday’s performance: When Concert will be Thursday, December 15th at 7:00 p.m. at the Camas High School Theatre. When to meet Students need to arrive at 6:30 p.m. Please do not arrive any earlier than 6:30 p.m., as we will be setting up the theatre. Where to meet/case storage The 6th Grade Band will meet onstage at CHS and store their cases directly offstage. The 7th Grade Band will meet in the Choir Room at CHS. They will also store their cases here. The 8th Grade Band will meet in the Band Room at CHS. They will also store their cases here. Checking in There will be an attendance sheet in each group’s case storage area. In order to receive credit, students will need to check themselves off once they get there. Remember, students are asked to stay for the entirety of the concert. What to wear Please check the band website’s dress code for proper attire. Seating in the CHS Theatre Students will have a clearly marked off section to sit in. We ask that students sit there for the entirety of the concert. Students are expected to be quiet, attentive audience members when they are not playing. Concert credit will be reduced if students are being a distraction to other audience members and/or other band members. Recording We could use a parent to help with recording the concert. Please let me know if you have a recording device and would be willing to record the entire concert. Bad weather If school is canceled on Thursday due to inclement weather, the concert will also be canceled that evening. I am currently looking into seeing what options we have of rescheduling should we have to cancel the concert. Other band news Practice logs are due on Thursday with 100 minutes of practice time. You can download a practice log here. The SMS Choir Concert is this evening at CHS! 6th and 7th Graders perform at 6:30 p.m. 8th Graders perform at 7:45 p.m. You can use this for Band Project credit, just write a brief concert report (details on the band website). I’m happy to answer any questions that you might have between now and Thursday—please send them sooner as opposed to later, as the day of the concert tends to be very hectic. Looking forward to a great concert this Thursday! |
